Stories That Shine With Hope, Wonder, and Grace

There are moments in life when a story becomes more than entertainment.

Sometimes a story becomes:

• comfort for a hurting child,

• courage for a fearful heart,

• light in a dark season,

• or a reminder that God has not abandoned us.

That vision is at the heart of Lamppost Stories.

As a pastor, teacher, and storyteller for more than thirty years, I have spent much of my life helping people encounter the love of Jesus Christ through Scripture, worship, discipleship, and conversation. Over time, something became increasingly clear to me:

Stories often reach places arguments cannot.

Children especially understand truth through wonder, imagination, beauty, and emotion. Long before a child can fully explain theology, they can understand:

• kindness,

• sacrifice,

• courage,

• forgiveness,

• hope,

• and love.

That is why stories matter.

The name Lamppost Stories is inspired by the timeless image of the lamppost in classic children’s literature — a light shining in the darkness, guiding travelers toward hope, truth, and home. We want these stories to carry that same spirit of warmth, imagination, and grace.

Our family’s desire is to create books that are emotionally honest, spiritually meaningful, and deeply human.

One of the first featured works is a very personal and tender project by my wife, Teresa Tally:

Since You Went Away

This children’s book, which was originally a song in Tess Tally's children's theater musical "Grandma's Heirlooms," gently helps children process grief and loss after the death of grandparents or loved ones. It speaks honestly about sadness while also offering comfort, hope, memory, and love.

The book also includes a beautiful musical component orchestrated by Boh Cooper, known for his work with David Foster and Rascal Flatts. His contribution helped bring emotional depth and warmth to the project in a truly meaningful way.

But Lamppost Stories is not just about one book.

It is a growing vision for:

• children’s books,

• stories of hope,

• family encouragement,

• faith-filled imagination,

• healing through storytelling,

• and eventually resources for readers of all ages.

My ministry at La Jolla Lutheran Church has continually reinforced something I believe deeply: people are hungry for truth that is both beautiful and compassionate.

In a noisy and anxious world, we hope these stories become small lights along the path — reminders that grace is real, hope is stronger than despair, and love still shines in the darkness.
